Marianne Weil’s abstract bronze sculptures are created directly in wax, then cast in bronze using the lost-wax casting process. Weil casts each bronze sculpture uniquely from the original wax, finishing and patinating the bronze sculpture in her studio. Her recent work combines cast and blown glass techniques assembled with cast bronze and copper.

Her numerous awards, grants and visual artist residencies include: several MacDowell Colony Fellowships, an Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Foundation Grant, Hospitalfield Trust award, Tyrone Guthrie Centre Fellowship, Fondaçion Valparaiso Grant, Casa de Mateus Foundation and a 2005-06 New York State Council for the Arts Community Connection Grant for a public art installation for the Village of Greenport, New York. A commission for a bronze sculpture by the Village of Water Mill, New York and the Order of the Sisters of St. Dominic was installed on the Water Mill Village green in 2009. In 2011 she received a PSC-CUNY research award for her work combining glass and bronze.

Maranne Weil received her B.A. in sculpture from Goddard College in Vermont and M.F.A. in Sculpture from the School of Visual Arts. She continued her sculpture training apprenticing foundry artisans and stone carvers in Pietrasanta, Italy. She taught sculpture at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and Haverford College where she received several Mellon grants to collaborate with faculty from Swarthmore and Bryn Mawr Colleges on interdisciplinary projects in art history, anthropology and archaeology. She is on the faculty of the City University of New York, College of Staten Island’s Department of Performing and Creative Arts, where she teaches sculpture.

Marianne’s bronze sculpture is exhibited widely and is included in numerous collections both here and abroad. She is represented by Art Sites Gallery in Riverhead, New York and Kouros Sculpture Garden in Ridgefield, CT and Kouros Gallery in NYC.
